Don’t do drugs. You are drugs.
Take yourself, you are hallucinogenic.
You only have to shut your eyes
to see the farthest regions of the seen
and never seen.
You’ve only to imagine
that you can pierce through walls
and cause the planetary Baghdads of your dreams
to rise up from the dust.
Let your enemies devour one another.
Learn everything that others cannot teach you,
what only life is capable of marking
deeply in your skin.
Let the labyrinth of wrinkles
be furrowed in your brow
with the red-hot iron of your own life,
let your hair whiten
and your step become unsure,
on condition that you’ll save
your soul’s intelligence.
But intelligence without ambition
is a bird without wings.
So little of what could happen happens.
The one thing
the world will never have enough of
is the outrageous.
